    Galhas De Insetos Da Serra Geral, Caetité, Bahia, Brasil

    We inventoried and characterized the kinds of gall, gall-inducing insects and host plants from Serra Geral between August 2013 and July 2014. Two phytophysiognomies, cerrado sensu stricto and caatinga-cerrado, were examined monthly along transects during ca. 4 hours per visit, totaling 48 hours of sampling effort. A total of 49 gall morphotypes were found on 14 species of host plants in 18 genera and 13 families. Fabaceae and Malpighiaceae were the families with the most galls, with 22 and 10 gall morphotypes, respectively. The genera of host plant with the greatest richness of galls were Copaifera L. (n=10), Bauhinia Benth. (n=6), and Mimosa L. (n=5). Galls were found on leaves, buds and stems. The majority of the galls were globoid, glabrous, isolated, and one-chambered. The inducers belong to Coleoptera, Diptera, and Lepidoptera, Cecidomyiidae (Diptera) being the most frequent and diverse gall-inducers. The associated fauna included parasitoids (Hymenoptera), successors (Formicidae), and predators (Pseudoscorpiones), obtained from 13, 2, and 1 gall morphotypes, respectively.     Estudo comparativo da fecundidade e fertilidade de Biomphalaria glabrata (Say, 1818) e Biomphalaria straminea (Dunker, 1848) em laboratório por autofecundação e fecundação cruzada

    The aim of this study was to compare the fecundity and fertility of B. glabrata and B. straminea by cross- and self-fertilization. To attain this objective, laboratory-raised strains of B. glabrata and B. straminea were used. The former originated from natural breeding grounds in the municipality Paulista, state of Pernambuco, Brazil. The latter originated from irrigation ditches in the municipality of Petrolândia, in the same state. Snail populations of B. glabrata and B. straminea were maintained for 240 days in laboratory. Their fecundity was evaluated by noting the number of egg-masses, eggs and eggs per mass. Their fertility was evaluated by the number of viable eggs and the hatching rate. B. straminea was markedly more fecund than B. glabrata through cross- and self-fertilization, namely: greater egg-mass; higher egg production and more eggs per mass. Regarding fertility, there seemed to be no preferential period for occlusion to occur or a trend in the rhythm of producing viable eggs.O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar a fecundidade e fertilidade de Biomphalaria glabrata e Biomphalaria straminea em condições de laboratório considerando a autofecundação e a fecundação cruzada. Durante oito meses, foram registrados em laboratório, o número de cápsulas ovíferas (desovas), ovos por cápsula ovífera, ovos totais, taxa de eclosão e percentual de ovos férteis dos moluscos criados individualmente e agrupados. Foram utilizados exemplares de B. glabrata de Paulista, PE e B. straminea oriunda de Petrolândia, PE. As observações foram divididas por faixa etária no periódo de 0 a 240 dias. Os resultados obtidos neste trabalho mostram que B. straminea apresenta um potencial reprodutivo maior do que B. glabrata, tanto para moluscos criados em grupo quanto para os criados individualmentes. A comparação dos valores encontrados para fecundidade dentro da mesma espécie sugere que a autofecundação como estratégia reprodutiva, é mais eficiente em B. straminea, já que as médias encontradas (número médio de capsúlas ovíferas e ovos por cápsula ovífera) são bem próximos aos valores observados nos moluscos mantidos em grupo. Com relação à fertilidade, parece não existir períodos favoráveis para a eclosão, não havendo também um ritmo e nenhuma tendência para a produção de ovos férteis

    ResumenObjetivoEl presente estudio evaluó la validez y reproducibilidad de dos modelos de receptores para el Global Positioning System (GPS). La validez fue evaluada comparando la distancia registrada por los receptores con la distancia conocida de estos trayectos.MétodoSeis jóvenes tenistas (177,6±6,2cm; 76,6±3,2kg) recorrieron tres trayectos: 1) 100m en la pista de atletismo (número de “disparos” = 120); 2) 400m en la pista de atletismo (número de “disparos” = 60) y 3) 100m con cambios de dirección (número de “disparos” = 120), utilizando los equipos Garmin© Forerunner 405 y Polar© RS800.ResultadosEn los trayectos sin cambios de dirección (100 y 400m), a través de la ANOVA two way (distancia y velocidad) no se detectaron diferencias entre la distancia conocida y las distancias registradas por los receptores analizados (p>0,05). En el trayecto de 100m con cambios de dirección, se observaron diferencias entre la distancia conocida y las registradas tanto por el Polar© RS800 como por el Garmin© Forerunner 405 (p<0,05). También se verificó la diferencia en las distancias registradas por el Polar® RS800 y por el Garmin© Forerunner 405 para el trayecto realizado con cambios de dirección (p<0,05).ConclusiónA través de los datos, se puede afirmar que los receptores para GPS evaluados presentaron un nivel aceptable de precisión para distancias recorridas sin cambios de dirección, sin embargo, la precisión de estos equipos en trayectos con cambios de dirección fue limitada.AbstractObjectiveThe present study evaluated the reproducibility and validity of two models of receivers for the Global Positioning System (GPS). Validity was assessed by comparing the distance recorded by the GPS receivers with the known distance.MethodSix young players (177.6±6.2cm; 76.6±3.2kg) performed three routes with different characteristics: 1) 100m in the athletics track (number of “sprints” = 120); 2) 400m in the athletics track (number of “sprints” = 60) and 3) 100m with changes of direction (number of “sprints” = 120), using equipment Garmin© Forerunner 405 and Polar© RS800.ResultsRegarding linear routes (100 and 400m), no differences were detected using ANOVA two-way (distance and speed) between the known distance and distance recorded by GPS receivers analyzed (p>0.05). Regarding non-linear route of, significant differences were observed between the known distance and recorded distance by the GPS receivers (p<0.05). There was also a significant difference between the distance recorded by Polar© RS800 and Garmin© Forerunner 405 for the non-linear route (p<0.05). Analysis of the limits of agreement reinforces the limitation of equipment in relation to accuracy for the non-linear route.ConclusionThese data suggest that the GPS receivers evaluated showed acceptable level of accuracy for linear routes, however, the accuracy of such devices on non-linear routes was limited

    Invasão microvascular no carcinoma hepatocelular : é possível predizer pelos parâmetros quantitativos da tomografia computadorizada?

    To investigate whether quantitative computed tomography (CT) measurements can predict microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This was a retrospective analysis of 200 cases of surgically proven HCCs in 125 consecutive patients evaluated between March 2010 and November 2017. We quantitatively measured regions of interest in lesions and adjacent areas of the liver on unenhanced CT scans, as well as in the arterial, portal venous, and equilibrium phases on contrast-enhanced CT scans. Enhancement profiles were analyzed and compared with histopathological references of MVI. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used in order to evaluate CT parameters as potential predictors of MVI. Of the 200 HCCs, 77 (38.5%) showed evidence of MVI on histopathological analysis. There was no statistical difference between HCCs with MVI and those without, in terms of the percentage attenuation ratio in the portal venous phase (114.7 vs. 115.8) and equilibrium phase (126.7 vs. 128.2), as well as in terms of the relative washout ratio, also in the portal venous and equilibrium phases (15.0 vs. 8.2 and 31.4 vs. 26.3, respectively). Quantitative dynamic CT parameters measured in the preoperative period do not appear to correlate with MVI in HCC525287292O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar se parâmetros quantitativos da tomografia computadorizada (TC) podem predizer invasão microvascular (IMV) no carcinoma hepatocelular (CHC). Foram analisados, retrospectivamente, 200 CHCs comprovados de 125 pacientes submetidos consecutivamente a transplante ou ressecção hepática entre março/2010 e novembro/2017. Foram realizadas medidas quantitativas da densidade das lesões e do parênquima hepático adjacente pré-contraste e nas fases arterial, portal e de equilíbrio das TCs. Parâmetros de impregnação foram comparados com a presença de IMV nos laudos anatomopatológicos. Regressões logísticas univariadas e multivariadas foram utilizadas para avaliar os parâmetros da TC como potenciais preditores de IMV. Dos 200 CHCs, 77 (38,5%) tinham IMV no anatomopatológico. Não houve diferença estatística na razão de atenuação entre CHCs com IMV e os sem IMV na fase portal (114,7 para IMV positiva e 115,8 para IMV negativa) ou de equilíbrio (126,7 para IMV positiva e 128,2 para IMV negativa), nem na razão de washout relativa nas fases portal e de equilíbrio (15,0 para IMV positiva e 8,2 para IMV negativa na fase portal, e 31,4 para IMV positiva e 26,3 para IMV negativa na fase de equilíbrio

    INFESTAÇÃO NATURAL DE Varroa jacobsoni EM Apis mellifera scutellata (HYMENOPTERA: APIDAE)

    Varroa jacobsoni foi descrita em 1904 por Oldenans em Java em cria de Apis cerana. O nível de infestação com V. jacobsoni mede indiretamente o grau de tolerância da A. mellifera à V. jacobsoni. O estudo foi conduzido no Município de Mandirituba-PR. Os enxames foram capturados com caixa iscas. A percentagem de infestação V. jacobsoni foi resistrada mensalmente. Aplicando-se o teste de Friedman e usando-se o rank de cada colônia, separou-se os grupos de colônias homogêneas. A tendência sazonal foi demostrada com representação gráfica. O experimento foi delineado segundo blocos inteiramente casualizados. Em todas as amostras foi encontrado o ácaro V. jacobsoni. Diferenças significativas entre as colônias foram observadas. Na população de Apis mellifera scutellata existem três grupos homogêneos de colônias quanto ao nível de infestação com esse ácaro. O inverno é a época onde o grau de infestação com V. jacobsoni é mais elevado.     Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)To validate the translation and adaptation to Brazilian Portuguese of 36 items from the World Health Organizaton Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0), regarding their content and structure (construct), in a female population after pregnancy. Methods This is a validation of an instrument for the evaluation of disability and functioning and an assessment of its psychometric properties, performed in a tertiary maternity and a referral center specialized in high-risk pregnancies in Brazil. A sample of 638 women in different postpartum periods who had either a normal or a complicated pregnancy was included. The structure was evaluated by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), while the content and relationships among the domains were assessed through Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The sociodemographic characteristics were identified, and the mean scores with their standard deviations for the 36 questions of the WHODAS 2.0 were calculated. The internal consistency was evaluated byCronbach’s α. Results Cronbach’s α was higher than 0.79 for both sets of questons of the questionnaire. The EFA and CFA for the main 32 questions exhibited a total variance of 54.7% (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin [KMO] measure of sampling adequacy = 0.934; p < 0.001) and 53.47% (KMO = 0.934; p < 0.001) respectively. There was a significant correlation among the 6 domains (r = 0.571–0.876), and a moderate correlation among all domains (r = 0.476–0.694).     ABSTRACT Cryptococcosis is an important systemic mycosis with worldwide distribution that affects men and also domestic and wild animals. The infection is acquired by inhalation of the fungus or basidiospores present in the environment and may manifest as localized nasal or ocular injury, pulmonary illness or, less commonly, as meningoencephalomyelitis. Long-term treatment is necessary, and the prognosis is reserved. This paper aims to report a case of invasive cryptococcosis in a domestic cat that was presented with neurological signs. It is intended to emphasize the systemic nature of the infection and its possible routes of infection, reinforcing the importance of investigating this disease as a differential diagnosis of clinical manifestations with neurological involvement in cats
